韦氏字典（Merriam-Webster）的 2023 年度单词是真实的（Authentic）。真实的美食、真实的声音、真实的自我，真实性作为技巧。韦氏字典的主编 Peter Sokolowski 称，Authentic 单词在其网站的查询一直很高，但今年尤其突出，“我们视之为 2023 年存在一种真实性危机。当真实性被质疑时，我们意识到了对它的重视。”他说，对 Authentic 的查销量不是在特定时间特别高，而是整年对它的兴趣在持续增加。“我们是否可以相信一位学生写了这篇论文？我们是否可以相信一位政客发表了这一声明？我们不再总是相信我们所看到的。我们不总相信自己的眼睛或耳朵。我们认识到真实性本身是一种表演。”
